State-of-the-art Education Facility
Giving skills & knowledge to succeed in Broadcast Media
Our Plan
To operate a state-of-the-art education facility that specializes in instructing those students with a desire to work in a studio, or location production environment.
The school will offer a wide range of programs that allow students to develop expertise in many varied technical fields, as well as the ability to work closely with others in an industry that requires collaboration, social, and people skills. Students will learn from faculty who not only work with the most sophisticated equipment in the industry, but in most cases have designed and built it themselves.
High-quality education should be available to everyone, which is why we are building a new kind of school in Los Angeles that teaches communication and broadcast systems to students through a live, interactive curriculum. Students will have the opportunity to gain experience through firsthand / on- the-job type learning at our innovative school.
Our goal is to help them build the skills they need to become successful leaders in a media and technology driven society.
This knowledge is in high demand and pays very well for those with the new, fresh skill-set necessary to operate the latest equipment. We look to offer sponsored scholarship programs to help those who never thought they could get the chance to compete and thrive in this industry.
We offer programs in Sound Design, Animation, Entertainment Business, Film, Graphic Design, Media Communication, Music Production, and Photographic Arts. Students will immerse themselves in the process of filmmaking by learning pre-production skills, creating a storyboard, budgets, production skills, operating cameras, lighting, directing actors, set design and post production editing.
Far too often, graduating students are left behind in fast paced skilled industries because they did not receive the education they needed.
The problem is not just the lack of qualified teachers, but a lack of key programs and teachers that worked decades ago in industries that have evolved into something new.
CBSS LA is designed to satisfy this need. This program will be a scalable model for teachers, as well as, giving students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in Broadcast Media. We have been truly fortunate to locate an aging and underused facility close to the largest region for film, and television, and music production in the nation, just north of Los Angeles in Castaic, California.
We will be able to purchase a 70,000 square foot studio with six sound stages, two theaters and enough room to build twenty state of the art classrooms, and faculty facilities.
We will acquire neighboring properties, and expand our footprint, to build student dormitories, parking structures, set and equipment construction and storage, commissary, maintenance, and laundry facilities. We will be able to renovate and upgrade all structures with state-of-the-art wiring, fiber optics, connectivity, insulation, power, and solar capabilities. This is the perfect location, with a head start, to build the first school of its kind in the world. CBSS LA.
Our Chairman
I built my first Flypack™ in 1978 in my garage.
I was young and knew nothing about video. Well almost nothing. I did buy one of the first Sony reel-to-reel video recorders and one of the first hand-held cameras.
Up till this time, cameras weighed over 300 pounds and video recorders weighed over 600 pounds. Location video shooting was non-existent. In fact, in those days, the news was shot on 16mm film. Then the negative was rushed back to the TV station where it was developed. Live coverage of a news event was not possible yet.
My partner Greg and I tore out the stove, oven, sink and bed from my bubble top Chevy camper van. We built the first ever “Flypack” in my back yard. I sawed the wood and glued a sheet of Formica to it. It only looked “half-bad”. Somehow, we managed to get our hands on two more cameras and a switcher. We could not afford monitors so we used our personal TV sets.
For audio, we went to Radio Shack and bought a $30 “Hi-Ball” microphone. I had no crew. However, I had recently graduated from UCLA. So I called some of my fraternity brothers and told them I would pay them $30 per night if they would be cameramen.
They, of course, had no experience. During the day, we would travel up and down Whittier Boulevard in East LA with the client as they went from used car dealer to used car dealer and from furniture store to furniture store selling them advertising on the shows. We would just drive in behind them and make a commercial in 30 minutes and then be on our way to the next dealer or whatever. Eventually, they had us doing five shows per week. We were getting experience that you just couldn’t buy. After about six months my crew and I were pretty darn good, although, our equipment stunk. However, I was able to get friends to loan me money and we were able to finally build a high quality truck. The rest was history.
Our newest design is the Generation-5 Carbon Fiber Flypak™. It does away with the in/outer box design. Now, the suspension is handled by spring-loaded wheels (our own design-patent applied). This change enables the Flypak™ to hold 15% more equipment while at the same time having a smaller outer dimension. In addition, Gen-5 Flypaks™have better ergonomics and a 35% larger input/output access panel. The removable carbon fiber panels reduce the weight, are more impact resistant and “look cool”. Flypacks are designed for Live Event Shooting & Streaming.
